If you had to describe Dave and Paula Zorn, owners of the Locust Hill Inn, Cabin and Pub in Marlinton in a word it would be "Fun." Every time you see them, they are laughing and truly enjoying the life they have made for themselves in Pocahontas County.
Dave and Paula moved to Marlinton from St. Louis Missouri in 2000. Dave talks proudly about all the work they've done to the place which was actually a rundown old property that had been once a local dairy. "The place use to have just one bathroom and now it's got seven," says Dave.
If it were once rundown, you certainly couldn't tell it today with its raspberry colored dining room, welcoming front porch and painstakingly furnished bedrooms. The Pub/Restaurant has become popular for their Trivia Night on Thursday where you can get an artisan pizza, handmade wraps, or burgers (served on Ciabatta buns made by Chef Dave himself!) and a good selection of beer, IPA and wine. Friday and Saturday nights their menu includes Black Angus steak and daily specials. In warm months you can play volleyball or badmitten in the back yard either before or after dinner.
What do they do for fun? Paula says they like to visit with their family in Oklahoma and Buffalo New York. They also make short trips around the region to stay up on what's new and popular for guests.
Their strong background and previous work experience in customer service really shows as these hosts make your trip something remarkable with personal service. Both Dave and Paula have degrees in Exercise Physiology and Dave has been involved in food service since he was 18 years old. When guests were asked to comment on their stay at Locust Hill they responded with "very helpful," "comes up with out of the ordinary dinners," and "very relaxing location close to the Greenbrier River Trail."
On a high point on the grounds is a neat cabin with great views of the surrounding mountains. Guests can fish or kayak on the small lake on the property. Locust Hill provides a shuttle service both to points along the nearby Greenbrier River Trail and the trains at Cass. Talk to them about specialized pick-ups.
Exceptional service, great food and comfy rooms - what else would you want for your getaway!
